For many people, varicose veins are just a cosmetic problem so they just ignore getting treatment or do anything about it. Varicose veins are usually not highly dangerous but in some people, it can be a sign of poor health condition. Varicose veins basically develop because of the failure of one-way valves present in the veins which are responsible for carrying blood upwards to the heart.  Failure of valves results in flowing of blood backwards which causes blood to collect in the veins increasing more pressure. Collection of more blood results in expansion of veins, bulging, discoloration and bulging.
